Who Am I?
My name is Kristofer Hiroshi Sakamoto-Marshall, and I’m a fine art and documentary photographer based in Toronto, Ontario. Growing up in a blended, mix-race family, I’ve always taken a keen interest in the diverse demographics of people in the Greater Toronto Area, and the world as a whole. At the same time, as the only child from the relationship between my biological parents, I often sought solace in nature. This fascination with the Mother Earth manifested from a young, and eventually led to a deep respect for the beauty and power of our environments, and a particular interest in how geography and the natural world shapes cultures, perspectives, and ways of life. I currently work as an artist, focusing on the beauty found all all around us, and as a gallerist/curator, providing a platform for varying perspectives, histories, and lessons to be shared with the public.
Statement
My work a photographer is deeply rooted in the grounding power of the natural world. I depict the strength and calmness of water, the warmth of the sun, the foreboding of trees towering overhead, and so much more. In my work of urban settings, we instantly are swept away with the feeling of location. Through this imagery, I’m able to connect emotionally with the viewer, drawing them in, allowing for a greater appreciation of the location, as well as the people who inhabit it.
